Footwork is an integral art of all fighting arts but is extremely important in Kung-Fu, especially in the Choy Lat Fut style. The originator of Choy Lay Fut believed that a strong foundation is essential to becoming a proficient Kung-Fu technician. Besides footwork, emphasis is also on the horse stance which is, in theory, compared to a young tree that grows into maturity.
